Founded in 2007 as a special project of the Spartanburg County Foundation, Women Giving for Spartanburg is an open membership group of passionate women who have joined together to enhance the quality of life in the Spartanburg community through collective giving. This women’s giving circle pools its money, energy, and ideas in order to create a measurable impact on the local nonprofits funded via their annual Grant process.

OUR MISSION

To maximize women’s leadership in philanthropy by engaging and informing its membership, increasing charitable contributions, and significantly improving the greater Spartanburg community through the impact of collective giving.

OUR GOALS

EXPAND philanthropy and increase giving by local women of all ages;

BUILD awareness around issues of concern in the Spartanburg community, particularly civic health, economy, education, natural environment, public health, social environment, and cultural vitality; and

PROMOTE the power of collective giving.

All Members are invited to be as involved in Committee Work as they wish.

Women Giving is governed by a Board of Directors of women who are active leaders in the Spartanburg community.

Women Giving Spartanburg Committees

Events Committee

Our fun factor! They plan and execute our spring annual event and host at least two social events a year. The Events Committee also works with the Education Committee to coordinate the Grants Showcase.

Grants Committee

The core of what we do. Every Member of WGFS should consider serving on this Committee, so they can truly appreciate our strong Grants process. This Committee accepts proposals that fit our Grant guidelines. The Committee evaluates the Grant applications, attends site visits of qualifying applicants, and then determines the finalists for our membership vote. They monitor Grantees by attending 6-month and year-end site visits.

Membership Committee

Works to keep our membership vital and happy. They recruit new Members and work with the Events Committee to plan events that both encourage new Members and appeal to our current Members. They are also responsible for welcoming our new Members.

Communications Committee

Promotes WGFS through advertising, public relations activities, website and printed materials. They review all materials for Members and Prospective Members. Working with the other Committees, and they serve to promote activities via email or mailings. Photography, creating, editing and proofreading may be involved, depending on your strengths

Education Committee

Plans informative and fun events for our membership, serving to educate us on an internal process, on a community issue that is relevant to what we do, or on an issue or activity in which our membership has expressed an interest. They also work with the Grants Committee to plan our spring Grants Showcase where members meet our Grant finalists before casting their votes for funding.

Fund Development Committee

Identifies and presents proposals to businesses and/or corporations to seek support through Member and/or Event Sponsorship. Also oversees and solicits donations for special funds and give back events.
